UDC and Inditex create a program to recruit excellent researchers

A Coruña, October 17, 2016.- The president of the University of Coruña, Julio Abalde, and the president of Inditex, Pablo Isla, signed this morning a collaboration agreement between the two entities to create a
program to recruit excellent international researchers called “InTalent”. This program will allow scientists with a broad international career to be attracted to the University of Coruña to develop their various
innovative projects in the UDC research centres. InTalent's objectives are to increase the quality of teaching and research, to improve employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for students and to increase
the visibility of the University of Coruña on an international level.
Secondly, the speaker explained, "the intention is that UDC has the capacity to retain talent from its own university, enable the return of excellent researchers and attract prestigious scientists to carry out their
research in the centers of our Technology Park in Coruña and Ferrol." Inditex will contribute a global amount of 1,450,000 euros, which will finance the researchers and a specific endowment for the development of
their research, in accordance with the established agreement that will be in effect until 2021.
The Universidade da Coruña will select six scientists who will join annually and progressively in groups of two in the calls that will be opened in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019. After the period of stay of each
researcher, the Universidade da Coruña will join as teaching and research staff. The scientists will be selected by a commission that will evaluate their merits, based on research excellence or main criterion. The
positive scientific and social impact of the research plan will also be assessed. Each researcher will remain contracted under the agreement for two years, with the possibility of extension for another year.
The University of Coruña and Inditex will create a joint joint commission that will oversee the operation of the Program.
The signing ceremony this morning was attended by, in addition to the director and president of Inditex, or president of the Social Council of the UDC, General Secretary of Inditex, Antonio Abril, or former director
Xosé Luís Armesto and the vice-president of Scientific Policy, Research and Transfer, Salvador Naya, as well as the Deputy Director of Transfer, Fidel Cacheda.
UDC's relationship with Inditex led in 2010 to the creation of the Chair of Social Responsibility, a pioneer among Spanish universities. The InTalent Program complements the collaboration line of talent support
promoted by the University of Coruña and Inditex with aid for pre-doctoral stays in leading foreign universities that began to be offered to teaching students since 2013. Julio Abalde transferred this morning to
Pablo Isla the gratitude of the institution to Inditex, as well as the work carried out in the relationship with the company of the president of Social Council, Antonio Abril.
