The University of A Coruña organizes the International Masterclass “Particle physics with hands”

A Coruña, March 12, 2024.- The Faculty of Sciences of the University of A Coruña (UDC) in collaboration with the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), celebrates the first edition of the International Masterclass ‘Particle Physics with Hands’.

The conference will take place next Wednesday, March 13, at the Faculty of Sciences (Campus Zapateira), and is aimed at 2nd year high school students from schools throughout Galicia. This is a unique opportunity, which will allow 18 students from 7 schools to immerse themselves in a simulated scientific experience, with a series of lectures on current Particle Physics and a practical session carried out in groups.

The results will be discussed via videoconference with students from Constantine (Algeria), Athens (Greece), Tehran (Iran) and Madrid; who will participate in the conference simultaneously. This masterclass aims to foster a passion for science, providing practical experience in the professional scientific process.

The event is organized by the principal investigators of the National Knowledge Generation Plan project “LHCb data challenges”, Ramón y Cajal and InTalent researcher Veronika Chobanova and the Oportunius distinguished researcher, Diego Martínez Santos; together with the doctoral students John Wendel, Victor González Tabernero, Joel Pérez Villarino and Ramón Ángel Ruiz Fernández.
