A UDC abre a segunda convocatoria do programa InTalent UDC-Inditex

The UDC opens the second call for the UDC-Inditex InTalent program

A Coruña, 29 June 2017.- The Rector of the University of A Coruña, Julio Abalde, informed in a press conference, after the ordinary session of the Governing Council this June, of the opening of the second call for applications for the InTalent UDC-Inditex talent recruitment program.
UDC and Inditex, within the framework of the existing collaboration agreement between both entities, are promoting this talent recruitment action to incorporate researchers who are in the postdoctoral stage, with projection and extensive international trajectory, under the sole criterion of excellence. Inditex has been supporting higher education institutions in recent years and its commitment to the UDC is one of its hallmarks.
The deadline for submitting applications for the InTalent program is open until 20 September of this year. Two new researchers will be selected to join the InTalent researchers already working at the UDC, Elena Pazos, with the project “Development of chemical tools with applications in biomedicine”, and José Antonio Cortés, with the project “Benefits and social impacts of environmental conservation policies in post-crisis Europe: the Galician case”. The rector highlighted the importance of this talent recruitment program for the University of A Coruña and anticipated a high number of applications supported by the data from the first call in which more than 140 curricula from almost 20 countries were presented.

Research Center in Philosophy of Science and Technology
In addition, the Rector announced the creation of the Research Center in Philosophy of Science and Technology that will be based in the Ferrol Campus Auditorium building and will begin operating in September. Abalde assured that this center “is a decisive commitment to the profile of the Ferrol Campus as an industrial campus”. The objective of the research center, explained the rector, “is to unify the activities carried out in the Faculty of Humanities around the philosophy of science and to value the importance of the humanities in the world of science, technology and business; which although considered antagonistic, the importance of humanistic knowledge in science and technology is increasingly being revealed”. “This research center is a decisive commitment to the Humanities on the Ferrol Campus”, ratified Abalde.
Abalde also commented at the press conference on the agreement reached with the Xunta de Galicia to comply with the ruling on the UDC’s demand for the Galician University System Financing Plan, which was ruled in favor of the university. The Rector declared that the Xunta will contribute 4.2 million euros that the University of A Coruña will receive distributed in the annuities of 2018, 2019 and 2020. “The ministries involved [Finance and Education] were sensitive to the request of the UDC that this compensation not imply a decrease in the other Galician universities”, he added.
The Governing Council approved other items on the agenda such as the modification of several academic regulations.
