More than 100 researchers from the University of A Coruña, in the CSIC Ranking of Spanish and Spanish Women Researchers

  • This classification aims to give visibility to the work of researchers and advance the construction of Open Science.
  • The list, which includes almost 10,000 researchers from national and international organizations, was drawn up based on indicators such as the h-index and the number of citations.
  • The UDC has 14 women among the 1000 who have the greatest impact.
  • Ramón y Cajal and InTalent researcher Veronika Chobanoba stands out, who ranks 26th.

 

A Coruña, May 9, 2025.- A total of 117 researchers from the University of A Coruña have been included in the latest Ranking of Spanish and Spanish Women Researchers, prepared by the Cybermetrics Laboratory of the Institute of Public Policies and Goods of the Spanish National Council for Scientific Research (CSIC). This ranking, which seeks to give visibility to women in the field of research, is based on Google Scholar and ORCID profiles, and was created from metric indicators such as the h-index and the number of citations of publications.

Among the first 1000 are 14 researchers from the UDC, the first to appear being the Ramón y Cajal and InTalent researcher Veronika Chobanoba, who currently works in the Nuclear and High Energy Physics and Technology Research Group (FiTNAE) and occupies 26th place on the list.

Already in position 294, the next outstanding researcher is Soledad Muniategui Lorenzo, university professor in the Area of ​​Analytical Chemistry, followed by Rosa Mª Fernández García, in position 305, in the Area of ​​Psychobiology; and Purificación López Mahía, in place 399, Muniategui’s colleague in the Analytical Chemistry Area.

Blanca Laffón, university professor in the Area of ​​Psychobiology, is ranked 412th, and in 544th place is María José Abad, university professor in the Area of ​​Applied Physics, followed by Josefina Méndez, emeritus professor and researcher in the Area of ​​Genetics, in 600th place; Sonia Pértega Díaz in 717th, from the Area of ​​Preventive Medicine and Public Health; and Susana Rodríguez Martínez, in 806th place, professor and researcher in the Area of ​​Evolutionary Psychology.

Continuing with the list, Professor Amparo Alonso Betanzos, from the Area of ​​Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence occupies position number 843, very close to María A. Señarís Rodríguez, also a University professor, in this case from the Area of ​​Inorganic Chemistry. Microbiology belongs to Professor Concepción Herrero, in position 893, and in 911 we find Paula Fraga Lamas, professor and researcher in the Area of ​​Electronic Technology. Closing this classification of the first 1000 researchers we find Vanessa Valdiglesias, from the Area of ​​Genetics.

But the list does not end here, the CSIC highlights a total of 117 female researchers among the almost 10,000 who belong to more than 450 national and international organizations.

 

Promotion of female scientific work

The objective of this classification is to give visibility to women researchers using a public and free access platform such as Google Scholar, and to promote open infrastructures through the generalization of the use of ORCID personal and RoR institutional identifiers.

The ranking collects data from researchers of Spanish nationality, as well as those who work in institutions in other countries or are foreign scientists affiliated with Spanish research centers.
