Elena Pazos

Elena Pazos holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Santiago de Compostela and has carried out research stays at internationally renowned institutions such as Trinity College Dublin, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Northwestern University. In 2017, she joined the University of A Coruña as an InTalent researcher, where she founded the QuimBio group, focused on designing peptide-based tools for the development of biosensors, self-assembled materials, and drugs. In 2019, she was awarded an ERC Starting Grant and held a Ramón y Cajal fellowship until 2025. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at UDC.

Project

Among other projects, she leads PEPTOC, funded with €150,000 through the ERC Proof of Concept programme, which aims to explore the commercial and innovative potential of results derived from her previous research. The project focuses on validating a family of highly selective peptides capable of eliminating chemotherapy-resistant tumour cells without affecting healthy ones, in more complex biological environments, assessing their feasibility for long-term clinical development. This initiative strengthens her position as a leading research figure in Galicia.
